How I Increased the Productivity of a Company

My dad owns a remodeling and roofing business called OnTarget Remodeling and he needed help creating an operating process that would increase the running capacity of his company. I’ve made a step by step process detailing exactly how I’ve done that.

Here’s a short video of me explaining my process:

The Idea

My dad wanted to increase the number of roof replacements and repairs that he sold to customers. He also wanted to increase the effectiveness of his sub contractor’s working hours. I decided that he needed a step by step guide for his roofers to follow that would allow them to work more efficiently and generate leads for his company.

He and I discussed exactly what he needed and I got to work.

Creating the Guide

You can find the guide I created here.

Before writing up the guide I needed to decide what software would be best optimized for their phones. Most of his roofers only use their phones for work.

I decided to use Google Slides because it’s free and easy to access for people on their phones.

I named the guide the “Better Roofing Guide”. I wanted to make sure that all of the instructions were extremely clear for anyone to follow. I made sure to include plenty of context-driven pictures for easier comprehension. I incorporated the logo and guide name in the first two slides like so:

The next few slides give a brief overview of how to communicate with customers, the boss, and reminders on roofing etiquette.

The slides after that are where the magic happens. These slides outline a system that I developed that could help land more leads and generate more revenue for OnTarget Remodeling.

These slides create a clear process for the roofers to follow that relays important information to the boss that can then be used to generate leads and develop advertisement strategies. The next few slides outline an advertisement strategy that could be done on the same day cutting back time loss and increasing lead generation.

The door hangers can be customized to fit the exact repairs that are needed for those roofs. Target advertising at its best.

The next slide gives an incentive for the roofers to hang more door hangers and analyze roof repairs.

I’m trying to create a process with this slide that allows OnTarget Remodeling to work on more jobs all at once! The door hangers are apart of this process. Each door hanger would convince a possible client to convince their neighbors to take part in the same repair that OnTarget Remodeling identified. If enough people on a block agree to repair their roofs all at once then OnTarget can decrease material spending, time spent driving, increase productivity, and increase revenue.

The last slide outlines a quick way for roofers to take part in creating a lead list.

My dad can use the roofing replacement estimation to create a lead profile that can then be contacted at the appropriate time using his sales software.

Why Simplicity is Important

Although the guide I created was short and simple, it is far from being unimportant.

The way a company operates with respect to its customers, time management, advertisement strategies, and other processes is highly important. It is even more important to make companies’ operations easy to follow for their workers. If a company is overcomplicated and clunky it can lose leads, customers, and revenue. A child is like a company, if they don’t get enough sleep, they won’t work very well the next morning.

I believe I have achieved that in this quick and dirty guide I have created for OnTarget Remodeling. The easy to comprehend images and actionable text pushes OnTarget’s workers towards clearly set out goals.

I loved the process of creating the background operations for my dad’s company. Of course, the guide is far from perfect, and I’m always willing to improve on it.

I can’t wait to see what I can create next.
